One of the most pressing issues with the theater was the failing roof. Although we were originally concerned about the leaks, as we looked further in to the issues we discovered deeper and more substantial problems. It was difficult even finding a contractor willing to take on such a project! We're happy to report major progress at last as we install a new roof. Lots of work was needed to upgrade the structure of the roof and modify the drainage and downsports. Replacing the stone caps to the orginal style. Lots of work and Lots of Money!

“We want to thank the person that left a beautiful state
flower and roll of candy on the window of the ticket booth.
We will cherish your thoughts.”
We have begun the demolition of the inside of the theatre and have
exposed the wall from the foyer to the theater itself and found a
beautiful aqua half wall with paintings of Tropical Fish. I
cannot find anyone that remembers that wall. If you have any
memories of how this was originally we would love to hear from
you. We also opened up the balcony walls to the theatre and
it looks great. As we removed the drapes we have found the
outline of the old wall sconces. We hope to have these
replicated as we move forward with the renovations.
We will begin the roof repairs and replacements this month and hope to
have that project finished by the end of June.
(March 17)
We are excited to begin our transformation of the Capitol.
Last week the Sign Company began their research on the renovation of
the Marque. You should see lots of activity on the Roof as we
must do a complete renovation. We have met with nationally renowned muralist Michael Cooper, of Murals & More LLC, to begin design work for a mural on the Wall facing West Main. Once these projects
are completed we will begin renovation on the foyer, bathrooms and
Snack Bar. We hope to have a rendering of what the finished
project will look like up in the poster covers outside the theatre by
this summer. Keep checking as we move forward on our project.
The Capitol Theatre is a historic building located just off the square
in Lebanon, TN.
The building is in quite a poor state of repair currently, but the good
news is that it is now under new ownership. The new owners
are working on a plan to bring this magnificent old building back to
life - so stay tuned for more details.
One of the goals will be to maintain the historical significance of the
building and make sure restorations do not destroy the historical
character of the building.
Right now, we're looking for information - and YOU can help!
We're collecting photos and stories of the Capitol Theatre and would
appreciate anything you can share.
We are especially interested in interior photos of the building.
If you have stories or can recall visiting the Capitol Theatre, please
share that information as well!
We've provided forms to make it as simple as possible to submit
information - either stories or photos.
If you have physical items, we request you call first and we can set an
appointment to discuss your items. Please do not send photos
directly to the street address of the theater! Photos are too
valuable to risk losing during the construction, cleaning, and
renovation process!
Thank you, and PLEASE check back often!
